Three New Zealand swimmers have made B finals on the opening two days of the US Open Swimming Championships at Indianapolis.
Shaun Burnett (HPC North Shore), Kurt Bassett (Laser Mt Eden) and Nathan Capp (HPC Greerton) all qualified for B finals.
Shaun clocked 2:01.13 in the B final to finish 14th overall in the 200m butterfly.
Kurt finished 11th overall after he was timed at 2:01.66 in the 200m backstroke while Nathan was 15th overall in 4:28.08 in the 400m individual medley.
In other racing North Shore’s Samantha Richter set a personal best 1:02.84 in the 100m butterfly.
However North Shore’s Mitchell Donaldson has been ill with a stomach upset and was scratched from the 100m breaststroke although coach Thomas Ansorg hopes he will be improved to compete in the rest of the meet.
With a number of countries travelling long distances to the event, the organisers have scheduled time trials every day after the morning and afternoon sessions. Many swimmers are making use of this to make the best of the meet.
“The time trials have officials and official timing. They are taking excellent care of the swimmers with full three-course meals available three times a day for officials and coaches,” said Thomas.
