The start of something extraordinary

Holy Family School – Swimming lessons here we come

Holy Family School in Porirua were recently the very grateful recipients of 35 pairs of State Kiwi Swim Safe goggles to help them on their way to being better equipped for their swimming lessons.

The decile 1 school  has a roll of approximately 200 students, and considers swimming to be an extremely important part of both their school curriculum and their community responsibilities. The school swims for 2 terms per year, with the students having lessons with qualified instructors in Term 1 and lessons with their school teachers in Term 4 of each year. As a State Kiwi Swim Safe school, Holy Family have made great use of the resources and poolside support that comes with the State Kiwi Swim Safe initiative, and have seen huge improvements in the swimming standards of their students, and their overall love for the water.

Swimming New Zealand’s Wellington Swim Safe advisor Sarah Gibbison has had the pleasure of working with the school over the past 2 years and has seen the passion that the school has for ensuring their students are safer around the water. “The school are doing an amazing job at encouraging and supporting their students and their families to experience and enjoy the water safely - I have seen the teachers confidence grow in their own abilities to teach swimming and that has had a really positive affect on the students”.

The school are running a swimming sports event later this term to give the students the opportunity to show off their skills to the parents – “and now they will have beautiful new goggles to make their swimming even better” the students said.

Thanks you to State Insurance for your ongoing support of the State Kiwi Swim Safe programme – the programme is making a really big difference!
