The start of something extraordinary

Orange Swim School become a Quality Swim School

Beginning their journey nearly five years ago Orange Swim School in Rotorua have now become a Swimming New Zealand Quality Swim School.

The swim school was started by Rotorua based swim coach and Dutch National Henk Greupink with the programme initially running from a local school pool and only during the summer.

This year the swim school has changed its philosophy and programme after taking part in the Water Safety New Zealand Water Skills for Life pilot programme, working with Swimming New Zealand and after Henk visited swim schools and clubs in his home in the Netherlands.

Now Orange Swim School operates all year from an exciting pool at the All Seasons Holiday Park on the outskirts of Rotorua as well as at Rotorua’s Glenhome Primary School.

The new programme has a water safety first focus with elements of endurance, skills and survival. Once they have outgrown the swim school the swimmers are offered further development as squad swimmers at a local swim club.

Orange Swim School also offers great opportunities for the squad swimmers to become swim teachers. Several of Henk’s squad swimmers from his swim club have had the opportunity to become swim instructors.

They have attended Swimming New Zealand’s Swim Teacher Award through their schools Gateway Programme and with Swimming New Zealand Education Advisor Erin Fowler.

The staff and management from Orange Swim School are thrilled to have achieved Bronze Quality Swim School status with Swimming New Zealand and are planning further growth within the region.
