The start of something extraordinary

Te Pohue School welcomes Koru with open arms

Te Phoue School is just shy of the summit on the Napier Taupo road, its home to the locals and has a can do attitude.

The kids at Te Pohue are fortunate enough to have an indoor solar heated swimming pool. Earlier in the year Swim Safe Advisor Fiona Hurley visted the school to work through some swimming and water safety skills with the kids and teachers.

The kids did such a fantastic job that it was time Koru the kiwi visited them.  Upon arrival the kids had no idea who was coming and when the music started and they began to cheer, “he’s big and blue, wears goggles too, has a big orange beak, but does not speak”  I wonder who it could be…………………………with a stunning entrance out came Koru the kiwi.

The children adored the lovable bird and helped him answer some vital swimming and survival questions, collecting wristbands, tattoos and stickers for their effort.

After presenting the school with the National Schools Certificate Koru had hugs with the kids outside and posed for photos.
