National Development squad member Hayley McIntosh has broken the 18 years 400m freestyle national age group record at the 2017 Los Angeles Invitational last weekend.
The 18 year old Northland swimmer recorded 4:14:17 to win the A final, becoming the first Kiwi swimmer to beat the original age group standard and setting a personal best in the process.
McIntosh who is a member of the Tokyo 2020 Swimming New Zealand National Development Squad was determined to swim well in the 400m to make up for a disappointing 800m freestyle swim the previous day.
"I had been training very hard up in the lead up to this meet so doing a PB and breaking the record definitely made me happy and has motivated me to lower it even more," says McIntosh.
McIntosh also picked up a five-second victory in the women's 1500 freestyle finishing in 17:03:48.
McIntosh will now taka a couple of days off before a training block to prepare for New Zealand short course championships (October) and Auckland championships (December).
