NZ AGE RECORDS FALL AT AUSTRALIAN STATE CHAMPS

Three Swimming New Zealand age records were broken over the weekend at the 2017 Australian State Teams Championships in Canberra.

The final day of competition was highlighted by the show down between Kiwi swimmers Kaylee Jackson and Ciara Smith in the girls 16 years 50m and 100m breaststroke event.

Christchurch swimmer Kaylee Jackson (Jasi) won gold and set a new record in the girls 16 years 50m breaststroke (short course) with a time of 31.71. Smith finished second in 32.01.

Ciara Smith (Northwave) reversed positions with Jackson on the medal dias, winning gold in the 100m breaststroke final, breaking Jackson's age group record in the process. Smith set a new record (SC) time of 1:09.08. Jackson finished second in 1:09.59. Smith also won a silver medal in the girls 15-16 200m breaststroke final.
