Nathan Capp has smashed a New Zealand open short course record at the recent Bay of Plenty Short Course Championships.
The Greerton swimmer had a classy swim in the 800m freestyle event on the Friday night of championships to set a new national record of 7:42.29.
His time was just over 10 seconds faster than the prior record of 7:52.73.
The previous record was set by Robert Voss at the New Zealand Short Course Championships in 2007.
