Swim Rotorua athletes David Boles and Emily Spear backed up their recent National Open Water Championship successes with wins in Rotorua iconic Hinemoa swim.
The 2018 Hinemoa Swim saw David (defending his title from 2017) taking top honors as the 1st Male non wetsuit and 2nd overall. Javier Gomez (Spain) a Silver Olympic medalist in triathlon, raced in a wetsuit and pipped David by a small margin.
Emily continues to show her strength in the Open Water taking top honours in the non-wetsuit category. Emily at 14 years came an impressive 5th overall and a 3rd in the Under 20 age group racing against stronger older athletes all wearing wetsuits. An athlete to watch.

Annelyse Cowie (13) raced to a 6th position overall and 4th u20 following her gold medal in the National Secondary Schools Championships in Lake Taupo.
In the mix in the 2km race we also had Swim Rotorua member Sam Osborne, NZ Triathelete, who was an impressive 4th overall on the back of competing earlier in the day in the Aquathon where he took top honours, and Lewis Skinnies Ryan who continues to get stronger in the open water with a crediable 9th placing overall.
Our impressive ATM's (advanced training machines - the adults) continued their fine form over the summer with David Spear securing a 7th placing in his age group, David Boles Snr a 27th placing for his age group and Stephanie Maslek a 6th placing in her age group. GREAT JOB TEAM.
We also had the Turbo/Metro athletes of Ava Tremain (10) and Joe Boles (12) competing over 750m. Joe secured 7th overall and a 5th u20. Ava Tremain raced to 3rd female overall and 2nd u20 placing in her first taste of Open Water swimming.
Swim Rotorua continues to show their strength in the Open water.
