The start of something extraordinary

Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards

Last night at the Wellington Town Hall swimming was very well recognised at the Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards. Samantha Lucie-Smith won the Emerging Sportswoman of the year, Gary Hurring was named Coach of the Year and Tash Hind took out Sportswoman of the Year.

All three are away at the moment at their pre-Olympic build up in Cairns and their success will be an additional boost for the team.

As well as the awards, Philip Rush was inducted into the Sports Legends of Wellington. This elite group comprises only 29 sports people including names going back to the 19th century. Philip joins 3 other swimming legends in this group – Rebecca Perrott, Barrie Devenport and Meda McKenzie.

Congratulations to Samantha, Gary, Tash and Philip.
