The start of something extraordinary

McMillan strong on Day 2 in Australia

Australian-based kiwi Andrew McMillan enjoyed a strong showing on the day of the Australian Olympic trials in Adelaide.

McMillan, the world championship representative in 2009, clocked 1:49.50 to finish 11th fastest in the heats of the 200m freestyle. It was 1.7sec outside the qualifying standard for the London Olympics.

Beijing Olympian Daniel Bell (North Shore) was 10th fastest in the 100m backstroke in 56.22s with none of the swimmers under the FINA A time in the heats.

Internationals are only eligible to swim in the heats at the eight-day championships, where New Zealanders can secure qualifying performances for the London Olympics.
