Breaststroke star Glenn Snyders again led the way for New Zealand swimmers on the second day of heats at the New South Wales Championships in Sydney today.
Snyders was fastest in qualifying in the 100m breaststroke as 11 kiwi swimmers qualified for tonight’s finals at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.
The Swimming New Zealand AquaBlacks and High Performance Squad along with the newly formed Wellington Regional HPC are among 66 kiwi swimmers from 17 clubs competing across the Tasman in the three-day meet that has attracted more than 1300 competitors.
Big Roskill Magic swimmer Nielsen Varoy topped qualifiers in the 50m butterfly in a slick 24.29s, while Lauren Boyle followed her 800m freestyle last night as second fastest through to the 400m final tonight, clocking a comfortable 4:13.73 in her heat.
Qualifiers were:
400m freestyle: Lauren Boyle (HPC North Shore) 4:13.73, 2nd; Natasha Hind (HPC Capital) 4:15.04, 6th; Melissa Ingram (HPC North Shore) 4:15.41, 7th.
50m butterfly: Nielsen Varoy (Roskill Magic) 24.39, 1st.
200m backstroke: Gareth Kean (WRHPC Capital) 2:01.21, 5th; Kurt Bassett (HPC North Shore) 2:01.24, 6th.
100m breaststroke: Glenn Snyders (HPC North Shore) 1:02.25, 1st.
200m breaststroke: Natasha Lloyd (Nth Canterbury) 2:34.19, 10th.
200m freestyle: Matthew Stanley (HPC Matamata) 1:49.98, 5th.
50m freestyle: Hayley Palmer (North Shore) 25.76, 10th.
200m individual medley: Mitchell Donaldson (HPC North Shore) 2:04.92, 7th.
