PAN PACS DAY 4: RESULTS

All three Kiwi swimmers were in action on the final pool day of the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo Japan.

Ali Galyer qualified for the women's 200m backstroke A-final after posting a heat time of 2:10.11s. With the Pan Pacific rules of only allowing for two athletes from each country to be eligible for a finals spot, Galyer was elevated into the A-final.

Galyer finished 8th in a time of 2:10.26s.



The gold medal was won by American Kathleen Baker 2:06.14s, a new championship record. Canadian Taylor Ruck was second (2:06.41s), and Regan Smith (USA) setting a new World Junior Record in 2:06.46s.

Daniel Hunter improved on his heat time (22.51s) to finish 7th in the A-final men’s 50m Freestyle in 22.39s. The time was only  0.08s off his personal best and New Zealand record.



Michael Andrew (USA) blitzed the field with a winning time of 21.46s followed by team mate Caeleb Dressel (USA) in 21.93s. Yuri Kisil (CAN) was third in 22.02s.

Lewis Clareburt set a new personal best of 2:01.10s in the B-final men’s 200m backstroke. Clareburt shaved 0.44s off his previous best which was set at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

Ryan Murphy (USA) set a new championship record of 1:53.57 in winning the A-final. Ryosuke Irie (JPN) was second in 1:55.12s and Austin Katz (USA) third in 1:56.00s.

That wraps up the pool competition with the focus now turning to Matt Scott and Charlotte Webby who will compete in the 10km open water events tomorrow.
