The start of something extraordinary

Glory for AIMS Games Swimmers

Three swimmers from BOISC represented their high schools at the AIMS Games in Tauranga this year: Ben Colbatz (12), Florence Venner (11) and Maia Williams (13). There were 340 swimmers at the event all of who had to achieve tough qualifying times in order to compete. Ben, Florence and Maia all swam multiple events in the heats on Monday night and achieved many personal bests. Florence and Maia both swam so well that they finished in the top 10 of their age groups and both qualified for finals on Tuesday night. Florence swam in the 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley finals, and Maia qualified in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle. Florence swam exceptionally well again on Tuesday night to achieve further personal bests in all three finals winning her 2 Bronze medals in the butterfly events and a 6th place in the medley (11-and-under). Maia achieved a 10th place in the butterfly and was 9th in the freestyle for the 13-and-over age group. Florence’s times will qualify her to swim at the SNZ Division 2 competition in Dunedin next March.

All three swimmers enjoyed the opportunity to represent their schools and compete against the best swimmers in their age groups in the country.
