State New Zealand Open Championships – Day 4 Heats

Triple world championship medallist Lauren Boyle made it three from three in the final morning of heats at the State New Zealand Open Swimming Championships in Auckland.

Boyle (United) clocked 4:06.49 to dominate heats of the 400m freestyle which was just over one second inside the qualifying time for the Commonwealth Games.

This follows her qualification in the 200m and 800m freestyle earlier in the meet.

Boyle was 13 seconds clear of her next closest rival in a dominant performance.

In other key swims Samantha Lee was top qualifier in the 200m butterfly in 2:15.26, while last night’s hero in the 200m freestyle, Mitchell Donaldson (North Shore) was fastest in heats of the 200m individual medley in 2:02.86.

In the battle of the fast men, defending champion Nielsen Varoy (West Auckland Aquatics) was fastest in the 50m freestyle heats in 23.24 ahead of Howick Pakuranga’s Daniel Hunter.

Tonight’s finals session starts at 7pm at the West Wave Aquatic Centre in Henderson.
