The start of something extraordinary

Burnett back across the ditch for NZ Opens

Current Aquablack and North Shore Swimming Club member Shaun Burnett will be one of many New Zealand swimmers returning to the country for the State 2014 New Zealand Open Championships in a week’s time.

Burnett has recently been training at The Southpoint School (TSS) in Queensland, Australia where he has had to get used to different training conditions, in particular training in an outdoor pool compared to in New Zealand where he would be training in an indoor pool.

In the lead up to the New Zealand Opens Burnett has been focusing hard on his training, which at the moment includes nine pool sessions and three gym sessions a week, and feels he has made great strides in improving his current race strategies.

The 23 year old has had many great achievements in his career already, including New Zealand Champion for 2012 in the 200m butterfly and more recently a highlight for him was competing at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain last year.

Coming back to New Zealand Burnett says he is most looking forward to “seeing all the High Performance Centre swimmers back in New Zealand, all my friends and family and of course my dog, a two year old Great Dane.
