This course is designed to encourage teachers of swimming to be confident to include people with a disability into their swimming programme.
Course content includes
- Understanding the benefits of learning to swim for swimmers with disabilities
- Understanding of working with swimmers with disabilities
- How to provide basic safety for all swimmers including swimmers with disabilities
- The skills and knowledge to plan and adapt lessons to include swimmers with disabilities
- Understanding of the pathways of inclusion in aquatic education
- Opportunities to experience swimming with a disability
- Information about various agencies that can assist swimmers with disabilities in their swimming pathway
Requirements for Certification
- Attend one day course and participate in all aspects of the course including pool sessions
- Log 20 hrs of teaching two different swimmers with a disability.
- Complete a related Assignment
- Sucessfully complete practical assesment
Pre-Requisite for Course
- Hold a current Assistant Swim Teacher Award
- Hold a current First Aid Certificate (US6401 & US6402)
