The start of something extraordinary

Spotlight on Quality Swim Schools - Swimgym

Floating to fulfilling the Olympic dream is what Swimgym is about.

Swimgym swim school has been around since 1987 and has been under the leadership of Horst Meihe since 1996.

Swimgym’s  class sizes are small and all levels are designed to ensure that there is constant forward movement.

All swimmers have the opportunity to carry on swimming with the club towards competition with Howick and Pakuranga Swim Club.

It all started with one swim school at Lloyd Elsmore Pool in Pakuranga, Auckland and has really continued to grow.

In 2012 a new state of the art pool was built in Howick. Think of a 15 metre swimming pool in an airline club lounge - with free Wi-Fi, comfy seats and great coffee.

Swimgym Howick is designed to take care of the needs of their swimmers, teachers and spectators alike.

Swimgym has also expanded to sites in Otara, Papatoetoe and an exciting new venture on Waiheke Island.

It is Swimgym’s intent to have a development process that looks after the needs of each athlete in the programme to the best of their ability.

Each part of the programme right from learn to swim should link into the next with the least possible inconvenience to the learner or athlete.

Ideally swimmers will develop technique first (up to 10 years old). Maintain technique, and then start to learn how to train (10-12 years old). Finally swimmers (once they know how to train) will learn how to race.

Swimgym is also the proud supplier of the John Walker, Find Your Field of Dreams progamme. Find Your Field of Dreams is a Lion Foundation, Auckland Council supported swim programme delivering over 4000 free lessons every week to South and East Auckland school children.

Swimgym is a Quality Swim School as recognized by Swimming New Zealand and is also a member of Swim Australia and an International Swim Schools Association member. All of the staff are qualified with Swimming New Zealand with many holding international qualifications plus they hold regular in house training.

We look forward to continue working alongside Swimgym and we wish Horst and the team all the best.
