Asthma Foundation

The Asthma Foundation is New Zealand’s not-for-profit sector authority on asthma and other respiratory illnesses. They are committed to finding new solutions for people with asthma and respiratory diseases through contributing to the development of public policy, education and funded research. They continue to advocate on behalf of all people with respiratory conditions and increase awareness of respiratory conditions in New Zealand.

Swimming for the Asthma Foundation is Steven Kent, Sam Caradus, John Gatfield & Kath Johnstone.

 

Steven Kent

Steven Kent competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games where he was part of the 4x200m freestyle team.

In 2014 Steven again represented New Zealand at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games where he was part of the 4x200m and 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay teams. He also competed at the Pan Pacific Championships on the Gold Coast in 2014.

Steven was also part of the 2014 New Zealand Surf Life Saving Team that won the World Championships.

 

Sam Caradus

Sam Caradus was part of the New Zealand team that competed at the 2000 Australian Age Group Championships where he won gold in the 16 years 200m butterfly.

In 1996 Sam broke the New Zealand Age Group Record for 12 years and under in the 100m butterfly and the 400m individual medley.

Sam is currently director of coaching at Parnell Swim Club.

 

 

John Gatfield

John Gatfield is the youngest New Zealander to have swum the Cook Strait, doing so at the age of 13.

In 2007 John competed at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the following year was part of the FINA World Youth Championships team and collected a bronze medal in the 200m individual medley at the FINA Wold Cup in Singapore.

In 2009 John was the New Zealand champion in the 200m individual medley.

 

 

Kath Johnstone

Kath is an impressive 97 years of age and still swimming regularly.

Kath has won multiple FINA World Masters Swimming Games gold medals attending the 2012 and 2014 events. She has also won multiple medals at the World Masters Games attending in 2010.

She was Swimming New Zealand's Masters Swimmer of the Year in 2013.
