Olympic swimmer Dylan Dunlop-Barrett has announced his retirement from competitive swimming.
Originally from the Taranaki Dunlop-Barrett moved to Auckland where he joined Coast Swimming Club and was a core part of the High Performance Centre squad for several years.
During his career he competed at the 2011 FINA World Championships, London 2012 Olympic Games and last year was part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championship teams.
In 2011 Dunlop-Barrett broke the national record in the men’s 800m freestyle which had previously been held for 20 years by New Zealand swimming great Danyon Loader.
The freestyle specialist is also a New Zealand relay record holder in the 4x200m freestyle set at the 2012 New Zealand Open Championships with Matthew Stanley, Steven Kent and Andrew McMillan.
He also competed in World Cup meets and at a junior level at the 2009 Junior Pan Pacific Championships and the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival where he claimed bronze in the 1500m freestyle.
Swimming New Zealand thank Dunlop-Barrett for the tremendous commitment and positive contributions he has made to the sport at an elite level for many years and wish him the best for the future.
