The start of something extraordinary

Kane wins Rottnest Channel Swim

The  Rotto crown has gone over the Tasman after New Zealand’s top open water swimmer Kane Radford defied gruelling conditions to win the solo Karma Resorts Rottnest Channel Swim. Highly regarded worldwide and one of Australia's iconic events the Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island.

The NZ 10km champion, who has been based in Perth for two years, said windy, choppy conditions yesterday were “like four hours in a washing machine” as he crossed the finish line in 4hrs25mins, saluted by a cheering crowd.

“It was definitely more of a mental game. I’m just glad to be ashore,” the 24-year-old said.
