Commonwealth Games silver medallist Lauren Boyle has finished second in the 800m freestyle at the New South Wales championships in Sydney last night.
Boyle is among a large number of New Zealand swimmers using the championships as a build-up towards the national championships in Auckland in April which doubles as trial for selection to the world championships.
Boyle, who is training through the meet on the back of some big mileage in training in Queensland, was second behind Australian Jessica Ashwood in 8:25.80.
Compatriot Emma Robinson was fifth in 8:37.92.
Matthew Stanley, training with Boyle in Queensland, was the best of the New Zealanders in seventh in the 400m freestyle in 3:53.00 with Nathan Capp 9th (3:56.40) and Ewan Jackson 11th (3:56.60).
Wellington’s Samantha Lee, also training in Australia, was 11th in the 50m butterfly in 27.78.
Shaun Burnett led the way for Kiwis in the 200m butterfly, sixth in the final in 2:02.04. Of the other prelim times Liam Albery clocked 2:03.72, Bradlee Ashby 2:02.84 and Wilrich Coetzee 2:03.72.
The other Kiwi in a final last night was Jeffrey Arona-Tuifanae who was eighth in the 50m breaststroke in 29.35s.
