The start of something extraordinary

Makara Model School put on a show

Makara Model School in Wellington recently put on a swimming display for all of their parents and members of the community to enjoy. The purpose of this display was to show everyone in the school community how far all of the students have come with their swimming this summer.

School Principal, Gail Dewar, was really excited to host the yearly event, saying "lots of families came along to see what the children had been learning this term in the pool. The juniors were able to articulate to the audience what their focus for learning was and then show it.  The seniors can all comfortably swim a length and they displayed this in several ways during the display.

“The seniors and juniors joined together for relays, each group either swimming or using a flutter-board to complete two lengths of the pool.  The audience was very impressed by what they saw.

“To finish the afternoon we had an awards assembly and showed everyone the movie we made about our swimming programme. It was a fantastic day and an excellent way to report the children’s progress to their families."

Well done to Makara School for embracing the State Kiwi Swim Safe Programme, and continuing to work with your children in the water.

Makara Model School is a finalist for the State Kiwi Swim Safe School of the Year Award at the State Insurance 2014 Swimming New Zealand Awards.
