The start of something extraordinary

Koru makes a splash at the State Ocean Swim

Sunday 26 January was a very busy day out on the Wellington Water Front, with the sun shining and the wind blowing in typical Wellington fashion!

The State Capital Classic Ocean Swim event was enjoyed by thousands of Wellingtonians and lots of record times, and first time swims were on display for all to enjoy.

Koru the Kiwi was in attendance with Cecilie and Sarah from Swimming New Zealand, and again proved very popular with both kids and adults alike. Many photos were taken, and Koru was well recognised with lots of people saying that he had been to their school, their swim school, or they had seen him at the Christmas Parade.

Koru enjoyed participating in the Surf Lifesaving sessions that were run to teach the kids about being safe in the surf, before handing out medals to the winners of the kids 200m race. It was great to see Koru interacting with these swimmers and being a part of their swimming success.

Overall it was an excellent day and it was fantastic to see so many people out supporting this excellent event.

Many thanks to Scott Rice and his team for inviting us along to enjoy the day. We look forward to working with you again in 2015.
