The ninth edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, is to be held in Yokohama International Swimming Pool in Yokohama, Japan, from August 24–29.
Olympic and Commonwealth Games swim coach Gary Hurring will take up a new role as Swimming New Zealand’s talent identification and development coach.
The 2002 Games are being hosted in the United Kingdom to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II, head of the Commonwealth. There are the maximum of 17 sports included in the schedule for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
